-ONCE-A-WEEK INJECTION AS AN APPETITE SUPPRESSANT AND WEIGHT LOSS.

Semaglutide AND Mounjaro are prescription medications used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Weight Management.

Semaglutide and Mounjaro is available under the following different brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, and tirzepatide.

Semaglutide is a modified molecule our bodies make, GLP1. It’s a protein made in the intestine and results in a decrease in blood sugar and appetite. A small change in the molecule allows the drug to last weeks in our bodies rather than minutes. Originally used for diabetes and sold under the name Ozempic®, Semaglutide is a higher dose of the same drug for weight loss.

Recently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved semaglutide in the treatment of Chronic weight management for adults struggling with obesity or being overweight.

How Does Semaglutide Work?
  • Slows down stomach emptying so that after eating, you feel full longer
  • Suppresses appetite and food cravings (on average patients eat ~30% less)
  • Lowers blood glucose levels (without making glucose levels too low.
MOUNJARO/TIRZEPATIDE
  • ONCE-A-WEEK INJECTION AS AN APPETITE SUPPRESSANT AND WEIGHT LOSS.
Mounjaro/Tirzepatide Plus is a once-weekly GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist, representing a new class of medicines studied for the treatment of obesity. Tirzepatide is a single peptide that triggers the body’s receptors for GIP and GLP-1, two natural incretin hormones. Cyanocobalamin will help increase energy.

GIP has decreased food intake and increased energy expenditure, resulting in weight reductions. Combined with a GLP-1 receptor agonist, it has a more significant effect on glucose and body weight effects.
    • Substantial A1C reductions.
    • Boosted weight loss.
    • Improvements in cardiometabolic measures.
    • Reduce appetite.
What are the health risks of being overweight or obese?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of many health issues, some of which are potentially life-threatening. Some of the health problems you can encounter include:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Osteoarthritis
  • High cholesterol
  • Mental health issues
  • Cognitive problems
  • Sexual dysfunction

This is far from a comprehensive list. Virtually every organ and system in your body is negatively affected by being overweight or obese.

What is medically supervised weight loss?

You’ve probably tried many diet and exercise programs over the years. You may even have had some success, only to see the weight returning after a period of time. Medically supervised weight loss offers the chance to lose weight while under the care of an experienced medical professional.

The process begins with a health assessment to learn more about your current health and your past experiences with weight loss and gain. This information allows your provider to create a customized weight loss plan that aligns with your needs and goals.

The goal is to shed the pounds, but always within the larger scope of your overall health and wellness. This is not an approach that relies on fad diets, extreme measures, or intense exercise to move the dial. You’ll learn healthy, sustainable ways to move closer to a healthy weight.

Most importantly, you’ll have the support of the Dr. Moma Health & Wellness Clinic team as you navigate your weight loss journey. Periodic health checks ensure you are moving toward your goals without compromising your health. As you progress, you may even be able to stop taking certain medications as your health improves.

What role does medication play in weight loss?

Some people are able to make meaningful improvements through diet and exercise alone. Customized meal planning is a great place to begin, and Dr. Moma Health & Wellness Clinic also offers support for the popular hCG Diet. For others, medications may be needed to prompt weight loss, especially in the initial stages.

There are many medications to choose from, including Adipex®, which is formulated from the popular drug phentermine. Contrave® and phendimetrazine are also options. Some drugs work by controlling cravings, while others help you feel less hungry or more full during the day. There are even options that make it harder for your body to absorb dietary fat.

Prescription medications come with a risk of side effects and are not right for everyone. It is important to work with a medical professional to incorporate medications into your weight loss planning.

When you’re ready to take a step closer to your ideal weight, schedule a visit to meet with Dr. Moma and her team. Online scheduling is available, or you can always call the office or stop by to set up an appointment.
