Facial Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Facial?

When many people think of getting a facial, they envision a relaxing afternoon at a spa or salon. These are usually treatments focused more on the relaxation element than on treating specific skin issues.

A medical-grade facial is performed by a technician with advanced knowledge of skin conditions and skincare. These experiences are just as relaxing and enjoyable as a salon facial, but also deliver impressive benefits to help your skin look and feel its best.

Each facial is designed to address different needs. At the beginning of your appointment, you’ll receive a professional skin evaluation to determine which approach is right for you.

What happens during a Facial?

Each facial is a unique experience, customized for your specific needs and goals. However, there are elements of facials you can expect to occur during your visit.

The first step involves cleansing the skin and removing any traces of makeup. If you have dry skin, a richer cleanse is used, while oily skin benefits from a lighter, sometimes foaming cleanser. A toner can help sweep away any lingering product and prepare your skin for the next steps.

Your practitioner may exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells and other debris. Some exfoliation techniques rely on physical exfoliation, while others use chemical solutions.

Special serums or masks may be applied to the skin to introduce antioxidants, deliver intense hydration, or treat hyperpigmentation, inflammation, and other common skin issues.

Moisturizing the skin is an essential part of a custom facial. The process of applying moisturizer uses massage techniques to enhance circulation and help with absorption.

What kinds of specialized Facials are available?

The Dr. Moma Health & Wellness Clinic team offers many specialized facials to bring you closer to healthy, glowing skin. You’ll learn about how each option can enhance your complexion at the beginning of your visit.

A HydraFacial® is a facial that uses carefully controlled water bursts to exfoliate and soften your skin. It cleanses and exfoliates the skin while also infusing it with one of several powerful serums.

LED facials, also called color light therapy, use special wavelengths of light to stimulate new collagen production. These treatments do not expose your skin to ultraviolet light and are both safe and effective. They can help address acne, uneven skin tone, and generally dull skin.

Carbon laser facials are a non-ablative treatment that uses a combination of a carbon paste and a laser light to reach deep within your skin. As the light energy from the laser is absorbed by the carbon a reaction occurs that vaporizes excess oil, dirt, or dead skin cells.

Dermaplaning is a facial technique that uses a sterile scalpel to manually remove the outermost layers of dead skin cells. This approach can also remove the layer of fine hair covering your face for the ultimate smooth feel.

Dermabrasion uses a controlled stream of tiny particles to manually exfoliate your skin. It can address clogged pores, hyperpigmentation, and overall issues with tone and texture.

These are just some of the skin rejuvenation possibilities available from Dr. Moma and her team. To explore your options in greater detail, book your appointment online or by phone today.
