Microneedling Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an advanced medical aesthetic treatment that prompts your skin to repair itself from within. It works by creating thousands of micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers your body to create a powerful healing response.

The process is performed using a device covered in tiny, sterile needles. This device moves across the surface of your skin, effectively “stamping” the needles in a grid-like pattern. Your body perceives each of these tiny channels as an injury and rushes to repair those tissues.

New blood vessels are formed, boosting circulation to the skin. New collagen and elastin cells are created that smooth and soften skin from within. That’s why microneedling is often referred to as collagen induction therapy.

Is Microneedling painful?

All this talk of micro-injury and healing may lead you to believe that Microneedling is a painful process. In reality, these treatments are not painful.

Once you arrive, your practitioner applies a special numbing cream to reduce sensations in the treated skin. During your session, you may feel a slight stinging or pricking sensation as the treatment device moves across your skin, but most people find their sessions easily tolerable.

After your sessions, a degree of minor swelling and sensitivity is normal. Take care to avoid sun exposure as your skin heals, and avoid applying skin products or makeup as sensitivity lessens. You should also avoid hot showers, steam treatments, or any form of exfoliation for a few days after your visit.

What issues can Microneedling improve?

One of the reasons microneedling is a leading aesthetic treatment option is the ability to address numerous skin issues with the same treatment. Some of the skin complaints microneedling can improve include:

  • Loose or sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne scarring
  • Cellulitis
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

Microneedling is also an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.

You can boost the effects of your microneedling sessions by adding radiofrequency to the treatment. Dr. Moma Health & Wellness Clinic uses a special treatment platform to deliver radiofrequency energy through the treatment needles. This creates even more stimulation in the deeper layers of skin, promoting additional collagen production.

The team relies on the AnteAGE® family of products to support Microneedling treatments. There are specialized serums, accelerators, and cleansers that help you get the most from your Microneedling sessions.

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, can also be incorporated into Microneedling. This approach uses a solution created from a small volume of your own blood to introduce growth factors that speed healing and boost results.
